Just want to get the ball rolling ......

It is a personal observation that obese kids at the junior school are often left out of running events due to their physical outlook. Get real, who wants to slow down a race where agility and speed is needed. No one loves to lose.

However, coming across to the other side of the camp.... at SASS. There is a tug-o-war when zero becomes heroes and where fats are biceps. I really hope to see events cater to these students at the junior school. Example....tug-O-war....sumo wrestling... junior judo or even boxing (that's something I learned in P3 back in 1977). Why not? A SAPTA cup for this main event. These kids are also part of a sport's day team besides being "eyed" as forwards for our esteemed rugby team. Anyone with constructive ideas?

PS : Hehe...no offence to teachers....just an observation

Hi Richard,

Yes, we do agree to let everyone have something to aim for ... achievement or not. Just so each child can build up their individual character, motor skills, etc.

Before the SAPTA Cup story continues, maybe interested parents can enrol their kids in our program? Obese or not, it also doesn't really matter. It's an outlet for the kids to have loads of fun while staying healthy!

Please visit our website for more details:

And best of all, it's starting this Saturday@3pm on our very own astro-turf thanks to SAPTA's support and partnership!

Great idea! ;)

Hi Richard

Thanks for chipping in to this forum with your amusing post :)

It hadn't really occurred to me until you mentioned it, that plump kids are indeed left out of the main events at school sports meets, for the reasons you listed.

I'm not sure either if introducing any event obviously catering to these 'obese' boys might not highlight their weighty issues even further.

However, if other non-obese boys are included in these events, then it should be okay, and the overweight boys might not feel so self-conscious.

A Challenge Cup sponsored by SAPTA for novelty events - a novel idea! ;)

What do you others think?
