Hockey Parents Support Group

Parents are an integral part of the St Andrew's culture. So it is no surprise that the Saints Hockey Parents Support Group (HPSG) has been around for several years, giving our hockey boys in the St Andrew's Junior School and the Secondary School our unfailing support.
The HPSG is closely affiliated to the St Andrew's Parent-Teacher Association (SAPTA). We are a recepient of the Albert-Goh SAPTA Tuition Program for Sports Boys and have a HPSG Representative present in the monthly SAPTA Committee Meetings.
We are pleased to share with you our annual report for 2010 as reflected in the SAPTA Chairman's Report 2010:

Summary of Hockey PSG Activities for 2010
SAJS
Due to the political situation in Kuala Lumpur, the U13 team did not train overseas but held a Hockey Training Camp in school during the March holidays. Hockey parents assisted the teachers to chaperon the boys during their various activities. They also organized a team-building outing to an S-league soccer match in which the boys got to meet the players from Tampines Rovers.
The U11 Boys went on a training tour to Kuala Lumpur during the June holidays in which they played matches with KL schools to hone their skills. Several of our hockey parents went along on that training tour as chaperons.
SASS
Due to a ruling from the SSC, 3 of our ‘B’ Division players who were in the Youth Olympic training squad were not allowed to compete in the schools national tournament. Despite this, our team put in their best and came in 3rd runners up.
Our ‘C’ Division boys were off to a great start, having won the 16th SCC International Hockey 6s in February and coming in 2ndat the National 6 A-side tournament in May. The squad of 20 travelled to Kuala Lumpur during the June holidays for the final stretch of preparation before the 11 A-side commenced. The HPSG helped pay the tour cost for a few players who had financial difficulties. A very driven team, they did the school proud by winning the ‘C’ Division Hockey Championship, a first in 13 years. Our previous championship successes were at the ‘B’ Division.
For both schools, the HPSG sponsored competition jerseys, CCA t-shirts and hockey kits for all hockey and funkey boys under the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS). We also sponsored snacks at weekly training sessions and tournaments.
On the academic front, we worked closely with the RPG to administer the SAPTA’s Tuition Program for Sports Boys. In addition, HPSG sponsored additional Math tuition for five P6 FAS hockey boys. We also co-sponsored the awards at the Combined Saints Hockey Awards ceremony held in September.
HPSG managed to raise funds through the generosity of hockey parents and by selling the Saints polo t-shirt at major school events.
